This series will be presented on the 2nd Friday of each month. Sumter Civic Theater in partnership with the Sumter County Library is bringing back the Classics to the true die hard movie buffs. The Sumter Opera House is truly the best place to enjoy classic movies presented the way it was in the 30’s and 40’s, it’s cultural history as Sumter’s first movie theater will bring fond memories of the good old days. Each feature film will be provided by the Sumter County Library.

This July we are proud to present Roman Holiday, the 1953 romantic comedy that brought Audrey Hepburn to national attention.

Princess Ann, a young noble on a whirlwind tour of Europe’s capital, grows weary of her constant obligations and duties. Falling asleep on a park bench in Rome, she is woken by reporter Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck). Gradually the two begin a romance, hiding from the other their true roles in life. Will these two lovers end up together, or will their official responsibilities keep them apart?

For fans of Hepburn, Roman Holiday is required viewing, as it marks the actresses first major film appearance. However, Roman Holiday is a great film for all movie-goers, as it presents a classic tale of love and comedy set against the backdrop of 1950s Rome.

The cost is only $2.50 (two dollars and fifty cents) per person and all proceeds will go the Sumter County Library Children’s Programs. Seating is limited so come early.
