 26th NATIONAL NIGHT OUT –AUGUST 4, 2009
City of Sumter to Join Cities Nationwide for ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’
 

On Tuesday, August 4th, neighborhoods throughout the City of Sumter are encouraged to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 26th Annual National Night Out – ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’.  This crime prevention event is sponsored by The National Association of Town Watch and City of Sumter Police Department.  National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, foster police-community partnerships and strengthen neighborhood relationships, while sending a clear message to criminals that crime will not be tolerated in our community.

From 7-10pm on Tuesday, August 4th, residents in neighborhoods throughout the City of Sumter are encouraged to turn on outside lights and enjoy an evening outdoors with neighbors and police officers. Several neighborhoods in Sumter are hosting special events such as block parties and flashlight walks. To register an event in your neighborhood, contact the department’s Crime Prevention Coordinator at 436-2723. 

Police Chief Patterson stated, “This is a night for all citizens of Sumter to stand together to promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. Police-community partnerships are vital as we strive to maintain a safe and secure city.  We sincerely look forward to the community’s active participation in  the 26th Annual National Night Out- ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’, being celebrated Tuesday, August 4, 2009”.
