“Sumter Planning Department announces its new interactive online map”
Sumter, SC – With the implementation of a new online interactive map, Sumter planning officials are hoping to make information on any property in the county readily available to the general public.
“The new web site is a user friendly, interactive site that gives everyone the ability to check up-to-date planning info from anywhere at anytime,” said Bruce Haskins, Sumter County GIS Coordinator.
Located under the “Online Services” and “New GIS Maps” headings on Sumter County’s official Web site, the Geographical Information System map provides users with an efficient way to research properties throughout the county by tax map number, property address, street name and subdivision name. A link is also available through the Planning Department page on the City of Sumter website.
The system also allows the user to overlay various layers – such as flood maps and noise contours – onto any property for further research. Land use layers currently available for viewing include:
County and City Limits
FEMA 2007 Flood Map
2030 Future Land Use
Parcel Ownership
Shaw AFB Noise Contours
Shaw AFB APZ
Zoning
Poinsett DNL Zone
Shaw AFB Noise Zone
Subdivisions
Historic Protection District
Poinsett RCD
City and County HCPD

Sumter City-County Planning Director George McGregor said he expects the new map to give Sumter residents more access to public information.
“This Web site was built for general usability,” he said. “Our goal is that the members of the general public have answers to their land use, zoning and property questions whenever they want them.”
