PROCLAMATION
"VETERANS DAY"
A celebration honoring our Veterans will take place on the 11th day of November, 2008 in observance of Veteran’s Day. We, the Citizens of Sumter, many of whom are Veterans ourselves, have always been cognizant of the sacrifices made by the Veterans world wide, in the defense of liberty, freedom and peace, will acknowledge this day. We, the Citizens of Sumter, pay special tribute to War Veterans of all military branches that have fought and died in conflicts involving our armed forces. WE SALUTE those of our armed forces who are still fighting, and dying for God and our country. WE SALUTE YOU, knowing the freedom that we enjoy in our communities and our country is a direct result of the sacrifices made by the giving of our veterans, with honor and dignity, to preserve ones liberty and freedom. It is appropriate that we pause to honor those who are still living and those who are no longer with us.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor of the City of Sumter, do hereby proclaim November 11, 2008 to be
"VETERANS DAY”
in the
CITY OF SUMTER
and call upon our citizens to join with me in observing this day, with appropriate ceremonies in honorof those whom have born the burden in the defense of liberty and freedom.
Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor
