Opera House

The Sumter Opera HouseThe Sumter Opera House is located on North Main Street in Downtown Sumter. The historic opera house is downtown's center focal point and our crown jewel. As a center for the performing arts the opera house has several successful monthly programs and special performances through out the year from film, dance, theatrical, concerts and more. The historic Sumter Opera House invites you to be entertained through the cultural and diverse performances available and in many cases for free.

Our newest addition to the Opera House monthly performances is the Friday night "Sumter's House" series.  Sumter's House of Comedy is sure to give you face pains and tummy cramps.  Are we sure that sounds like fun?  Well, when laughter is the cause of your pain...you'll be back for more!

The second Friday of each month brings the Sumter's House of Classic Movies series.  The Sumter Opera House is truly the best place to enjoy classic movies, presented the way they were meant to be seen in the 1930’s and 1940’s.  It’s cultural history as Sumter’s first movie theater brings fond memories of the "good old days." Each feature film is provided by Sumter County Library and is preceded with traditional cartoons to give movie goers the feeling of stepping back in time.

The fun continues on fourth Fridays with Sumter's House of Bluegrass! The first show begins May 22nd and ends on October 23rd. Our season starts with Amick Junction on May 22nd, from Leesburg, on June 26th we have Last Road from Easley, July 24th Cane Creek Bluegrass Band, August 28th Ridge Hill from Fort Mill, on September 18th we’ll have the Flowers Family, and our grand finale on October 23rd is The Carolina Rebels from Columbia. For more information on the "Sumter's House" series schedule, please check our online Calendar of Events.
